Chopin’s Ocean Étude: Piano Against the Storm

Film· 2026· 3 min· Music, Short Film, Art Film, Experimental

A black grand piano stands on the wet wooden deck of a classical sailing ship. Beyond the rails, a slate-blue ocean rises into breaking waves. The sails are furled, spray sweeps across the deck, and water streams from the piano—yet the music continues. Chopin’s Ocean Étude: Piano Against the Storm turns Frédéric Chopin’s Étude in C minor, Op. 25 No. 12, into a short cinematic voyage. Its flowing piano figures find a visual echo in rolling swells, white foam and the ship’s movement through rough water. Wide views of the vessel and sea give way to intimate portraits, the pianist’s arms at the keyboard, and rain beading on her face. At the center is a fictional woman whose concentration gradually opens into warmth. She meets the camera, smiles, and returns to the keys, visibly enjoying the music even as the storm intensifies. The film follows that feeling: discipline and inspiration, vulnerability and exhilaration, all carried by a continuous piano performance. The soundtrack features Aelita Nasybullina’s recording of Chopin’s “Ocean” Étude. The visuals were created with AI, with still images generated in Codex and animated in Kling. The on-screen pianist and ship are fictional; the character does not depict Aelita Nasybullina. Her playing gestures are an artistic visual interpretation of the recorded performance. A 2-minute, 45-second musical short with no spoken dialogue. Music: Frédéric Chopin — Étude in C minor, Op. 25 No. 12 (“Ocean”). Piano recording: Aelita Nasybullina (@Aelitapiano).
