Downward

Eric had it all figured out: he was going to be a swimmer. Then an accident changes everything, and a silent fall begins that leads him, ten years later, to become a stranger in his own life. Downward is the story of how a person gets lost, not all at once, but slowly, without anyone noticing, not even himself. Set against the backdrop of the opioid crisis in the United States, the film follows how an ordinary life, a domestic accident and a prescribed medication can quietly spiral into addiction, with no villains and no obvious decisions. Told entirely without dialogue, it uses color and light to trace Eric's emotional state, frame by frame. A cinematic 3D animated short for adult audiences, created by Melted Minds Lab.
